God tells us that our words and how we use them have a big effect on how good our lives are. Evil words and lies cut short a full life like nothing else. They set in motion a force of lies and harm that we can’t stop. This power that we let out hurts not only the people we talk about and to, but also us in the end. It acts like a boomerang and brings its deadly load back to us. Let’s be the kind of people who say things that are right, good, clean, holy, true, and a blessing. (cf. Eph. 4:20–5:12)

Prayer
Holy and Righteous God, my Father, cleanse my heart and my words of all lies, slander, vulgarity, wickedness, untruth, exaggeration, meanness, distortion, trickery, and words that hurt. May the words I say and the thoughts I have be pleasing to you, O God. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
