There’s no room at the inn! “They put him in a stable!” So often, we favor the rich, the beautiful, the powerful, and the well-known. Isn’t it interesting that God showed himself to be the protector of widows, orphans, and foreigners and then came to earth as the child of a Jewish carpenter and a young virgin from a small town? God wants us to pay attention to those who are in need. He doesn’t want it to be just a nice thing he does every Christmas. He wants us to speak up for people like Mary, Joseph, and Jesus. Not only are we told to be fair, but we are also told to fight for the rights of those in need. We do it for him when we do it (cf. Matthew 23).

Prayer

Holy Father, help me notice more the people around me who need your love and grace. Make me your tool to protect them and help them. Open my eyes so I can see Jesus in the people who are hurting. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
