A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it! — Proverbs 15:23

It’s a great gift to be able to use the right word at the right time. But even the best speakers have to admit that their best words aren’t even close to as good as the Spirit’s. Still, we can’t make excuses for our insensitive words, lack of kindness, or missed chances. You can’t say you didn’t hear what was said. It’s a cop out not to be spiritually aware of what our friends need. Self-deception is as simple as not knowing the Bible well enough to bless others with kind words at the right time. When we listen to God’s Word and then listen to other people, our ears and hearts are tuned to bless other people.

Prayer

Shepherd Lover, I will spend a lot of time with people today. Most of them don’t know you, but a few do. Please give me the wisdom to say things that bring people closer to you. Give me words that will help me and give me hope. Give me words of comfort for those who are weak. Please tell me what to do if I’m lost. Father, I pray that whatever I say today will be in line with your will and help others in the way you want. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
