Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. — Isaiah 41:10

Fear drains our willpower and makes us feel weak and without hope. But very few of us have ever been so completely and bitterly defeated as God’s people were when Isaiah brought this message of hope to them. The fact that God protected Israel through all of their terrible times up until the time of Jesus, raised Jesus from the dead when it seemed like everything was lost, and helped the Church win through centuries of persecution and opposition are all powerful reminders that we are held by the arms of a powerful and loving God who will bring us to share in his eternal victory in the end.
