We try to get so many things, but only one of them makes us wise. Paul told the people of Athens that God made us to look for him and find him (Acts 17). The wisdom of Proverbs keeps bringing us back to “knowing God” and having a deep, reverent respect for him as the source of wisdom. We can only understand our priorities, needs, purposes, goals, problems, and issues when we know who the Lord is and spend time with him every day.

Prayer

God is holy, majesty, just, and eternal. I’ll admit that I know you much less well than you do. But I am sustained by your faithfulness in my life, your might in history, your grace extended to so many through the cross of Christ, and your assurance that you will one day receive me home. I ask that you reveal yourself to me in the things I do today because I want to know you so that my life can be lost in your will, not for my glory or gain, but for your praise. In Jesus’s precious name I pray. Amen.
