Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. — John 8:12

Darkness is more than just a sign; it’s a way of life and a way of seeing the world. The dark is where lies, bad things, crime, predators, sin, and death happen. To be a follower of Jesus, we have to give him our hearts and let him get rid of the darkness inside us so we don’t have to be afraid of the darkness outside. In this way, Jesus gives us light, but this light does more than just brighten a dark room. This light makes the heart shine.

Prayer

I thank you for sending Jesus to drive out the dark fears that so easily engulf me, holy God who dwells in glorious and unrelenting light. I ask for strength and bravery so that I can lead others to the light as well as live in it. In Jesus’s precious name I pray. Amen.
