The point of following Jesus is to know him as our shepherd as well as he knows the Father. One important thing for us to remember is that we don’t have to listen to everyone who wants to talk to us or give us advice. We listen to Jesus because he died for us to show how much he loves us. He is not a hired hand; he is the Good Shepherd.

Prayer

Holy Father, you are incredibly wonderful and kind. By sending your Son to be my shepherd, you have demonstrated your love for me. Please use your Word to help me hear his voice. Please use the sage advice of my spiritual friends to help me hear his voice. Help me to hear his voice in the songs that my sisters and brothers sing to me when we gather. Help me to discern his voice among the work of the Holy Spirit on my conscience. Because I know that your Son, like you, is good, I want to follow him as my Shepherd and Lord. In Jesus’s precious name I pray. Amen.
