If we had been around when Jesus worked as a carpenter in Nazareth or walked along the Sea of Galilee near Capernaum, we could have said, “There goes God,” and been right. The most amazing thing about Jesus is that he was God on earth. He is called Immanuel, which means “God with us.” In Colossians 1, Paul uses all the best words he knows to talk about how Jesus is better than everything and everyone. He is God who looks like a person. He is the ruler, the one who is beyond everything. He rules over everything. He is also our Lord and Savior, and he died for us.

Prayer
Almighty God, I don’t understand why you should love us so much. We’ve tried to push you to the side of our lives, spurned you, ignored you, blasphemed you, and rejected you. Yet each time we call out to you, you respond, hearing us out and saving us from ourselves. Father, please pardon me for not having more respect for you. Forgive me for not appreciating Jesus’s greatness and the extreme humility it required of him to give his life for me. But thank you, Father! I appreciate your endurance, sacrifice, and patience. I’m grateful. In Jesus’s precious name I pray. Amen.
