For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. — Isaiah 55:8

No matter how hard we try, we will never be able to comprehend how great God is because we are not God and he is. Always keep in mind that trying to emulate God was the original and most serious sin. We should make an effort to learn more about God because he wants us to know him, but we will never fully comprehend him or match his intelligence. All sin stems from the desire to match God’s perfection and the consequent loss of reverence and awe for him. We should be humble enough to recognize that, despite our best efforts, we can never match God’s majesty, righteousness, wisdom, or holiness on our own. Instead, we should strive to emulate God’s righteous character, gracious compassion, and faithful lovingkindness. This is simultaneously thrilling and annoying. However, the assurance that one day we will resemble him and perceive him in his true form remains (1 John 3:2-3). In the same way that he will know everything about us, we will know everything about him (1 Corinthians 13:11-12).

Prayer

I appreciate your patience with me when I am unable to fully comprehend and recognize your holiness and transcendence, tender Shepherd. I’m grateful that you sent Jesus so that I can get to know you better and have faith that you know me better than I know myself. I’m looking forward to meeting you in person when Jesus returns to take me home. Please know that I cherish you until that time. In Jesus’s precious name I pray. Amen.
