Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations; — Deuteronomy 7:9

Because God is sincere, his promise is founded on love. He won’t abandon us and will treat us better than we deserve, just as a devoted parent would treat a disobedient child. But we must prepare our hearts to revere God as God, not just as a lucky charm or a frequent visitor to our otherwise hectic lives. We must act as though he is watching us and that everything we do is for him.

Prayer

God of faith, I appreciate your unwavering love and sacrifice for me. We are grateful for the way you kept your word and sent Jesus to fulfill your promise to the Israelites. I have faith in your word that you’ll send him back to bring me to you. Please accept the actions and words of today as my gratitude for your loving covenant with me and the people I care about. In Jesus’s precious name I pray. Amen.
