Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer. — Psalm 4:1

At first, this plea for help sounds like a lot. But when you look more closely, you can see that this is really a cry for help. You’ve been there, right? I’ve been there, and I hear from people who are there now all the time. But read the end of this Psalm! How can you make it through a long pain? I think it’s important to be honest with God when we pray, to believe that God hears and cares even when our prayers are full of pain and frustration, and to praise God in our prayers, even when things don’t look good. It’s not a magic formula, but it does come from the Holy Spirit. You can find it in Psalm 4.

Prayer

O God, please hear my plea for relief from pain and suffering, as well as the pleas of those I love. Please answer in amazing and miraculous ways, not only to make us feel better but also to bring glory to you. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
