Don’t make God’s Spirit sorrow! But how do we make God’s Spirit sad? By holding on to anger, letting it out in fights with others, slandering their names, and planning to hurt them. Not only do these actions go against God’s will and character, but they are also the exact opposite of the things the Spirit wants to bring out in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). So it makes sense that doing bad things makes the Holy Spirit sad.

Prayer
Almighty Father, by the power of your Holy Spirit, please shape me to be more like Jesus, and I promise to show the character and compassion of Jesus in my life. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
