And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel. — Matthew 2:6

There is a reason why Jesus was born in Bethlehem. God, who is all-powerful, had told his prophets about this a long time ago. Even Herod’s religious lackeys knew that the Messiah would be born in the charming old city of David. In the city of Israel’s great King, poet, and shepherd, the promised Messiah would come into the world. This was what God wanted. It is also a reminder that God always does what he says he will do.

Prayer

Even though I love God, it’s hard for me to finish my plans and keep my promises. This makes it so amazing to me that your plans, which were hinted at in the Old Testament, are coming true. Please use your Spirit to remind me when I’m feeling down that you always keep your promises and will save me right on time. Please give me the patience to wait for your salvation faithfully and the courage to live until it is fully shown. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
