This command makes no sense without Jesus as an example. But Jesus shows us how important it is to leave our lives up to God, who made us and is our Father. All of a sudden, this makes total sense. How can you beat an enemy most effectively? It’s not to hurt or kill that person, for sure. No, the only way to beat our enemies is for Jesus’ grace to win over their hearts and for them to become like our King.

Prayer

God, you are kind and loving. Please make my heart soft and my resolve strong so I can love like Jesus did. Make my life meaningful, even to those who are against me, dislike me, laugh at me, and hate me. Use me, dear Father, to lead people to Jesus’ grace. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
