We live in a culture where grace and forgiveness are the norm. We forgive others because God has already forgiven us a massive debt (Matthew 18). At the same time, when God sees that we continue to extend his forgiveness to others, he is delighted to extend even greater forgiveness to us. Even if it is difficult to forgive someone who has injured us, Jesus wants us to realize that the advantages outweigh the expenses.

Prayer

God, I appreciate you cleansing me and pardoning me via the death of your son Jesus. You are kind and impartial. I appreciate you asking me to extend the same forgiveness to others that you have shown me. Thank you for emphasizing the necessity for your people to practice forgiveness. Please pardon us when we are sluggish or reluctant to pardon, particularly myself. I specifically beg you to pardon __ for ___, and I beg you to show this person your love and grace. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
