For if ye throughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye throughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbour; — Jeremiah 7:5

How do we really know what kind of people we are? It’s not just how we act “at church,” for sure. The real test of our godliness and character is how well we work with our heavenly Father to save the lost, forgotten, downtrodden, and broken, or, as this verse says, the “foreigner,” “fatherless,” and “widows” among us. When we only care about ourselves and leave the “have-nots” so far behind, a culture falls apart because it doesn’t have God’s heart, and people become jealous and angry with each other.

Prayer

God, who loves us and is all-powerful and in charge, please forgive us and let your children heal our land. Father, I especially pray that you will use me to help someone who has no one to turn to in times of trouble. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
