Along with teaching our children not to hate others, we also need to instill in them a strong dislike of injustice, wickedness, bigotry, and the treatment of the vulnerable. God mandates that justice be administered evenly for both the wealthy and the destitute, natives and foreigners, Amos reminded Israel. Despite their seeming wealth and power in Amos’ day, their continuous rejection of God’s plan in these areas brought catastrophe upon their land.

God,I know you are enraged by the unfairness in so many places and the racial intolerance that is enflaming our planet.Make your people, your Church, a place of hope, racial reconciliation, equity, compassion, and love. Please start creating this better world in my heart and with my hands.In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
