God’s plans for us are easy to figure out. He wants to save us and bless us with it. The amazing gift of his Son is a strong sign that this is true. But God doesn’t want us to be saved from sin and death just once. He wants it to happen over and over again. He wants us to show that we are saved by him every day and tell others about it. When we do what is right, seek mercy in our relationships, and worship God with a humble heart, God’s salvation comes true in our lives and touches others with his grace. In Jesus’ words, we work for God’s kingdom to come and be done on earth just as it is done in heaven.

Prayer

Father, you are powerful and kind. As I welcome the New Year, please help my eyes see what your heart sees. Teach me to hate sin and be kind to everyone who needs kindness. Teach me to know the truth and act in a fair way, and to hate exploitation and abuse. Through your Spirit, make me think about how far away your holy majesty is from my messed-up character. Make me your child in every way. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
