“Man proposes, heaven disposes.” Most people are quick to offer advice and make big plans. The Wiseman reminds us that getting wise takes a long time and a lot of listening. If you’re like me, it would be best to give your plans a little more time to grow in the light of the Lord before you start them. James, who wrote the part of the Bible about wisdom, tells us that God will give us wisdom if we seek it and don’t doubt. But while we pray for wisdom, let’s also pray for the patience to listen to the Lord’s truth in the Bible, so that when wisdom comes, we can recognize it!

Prayer

God, you are all-powerful. Show me your ways and help me figure out what you want for my life. I have a lot of ideas and plans, but I know that if they don’t come from you, they won’t work. Lead me to your wisdom, and I will not only try to learn it but also try to live it by using the power your Holy Spirit gives me. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
