Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. — James 4:10

Humble yourselves. That sounds really bad. At least, it sounds rude to the self-promotion culture of “get ahead at all costs” and “don’t look back, the competition is catching up to you.” People have forgotten how good it is to be humble. Humility is about knowing our place in the world without showing it off. This is often confused with being weak or shy. Only God can permanently exalt, so the key is to know where we stand with him and let him put us where he wants to honor him.

Prayer

Thank you for letting me be in your presence, Abba Father, Most Holy God. When I think about everything you’ve done and the amazing universe you made and keep together with your word, I can’t believe you want to be with me. I can’t believe you even care about the words I use. I appreciate that you know me and have a plan for my life. Help me to live with humility and grace today as I try to bring glory to you in everything I do. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
