The point of following Jesus is to know him as our shepherd as well as he knows the Father. One important thing for us to remember is that we don’t have to listen to everyone who wants to talk to us or give us advice. We listen to Jesus because he died for us to show how much he loves us. He is not a hired hand; he is the Good Shepherd.

Prayer

Holy Father, you are wonderful and kind in ways that can’t be put into words. You showed your love by sending your Son to be my shepherd. Through your Word, help me hear his voice. Help me hear his voice by giving me advice from spiritual friends who are wise. Help me hear his voice in the songs my brothers and sisters sing to me when we are all together. Help me hear his voice through the work of the Holy Spirit on my conscience. Father, I want your Son to be my Shepherd and Lord because, like you, I know he is good. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
