If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. — 1 John 1:9

God is faithful! Scripture declares it. We’ve been through it. In fact, we treasure this promise from God, especially when things don’t go the way they “should.” So, when Satan trips us up with temptations or when we are weak or disobedient, isn’t it comforting to know that we can be forgiven and made clean again? God wants us to call sin by the same name he does. (The word “confess” means to say the same thing about something that God says!) God does so much more than just forgive us. He also makes us clean. We are once again made new, clean, and holy. That’s more than just being honest and fair; that’s just plain kind.

Prayer

I don’t know how to thank you, Father, for your kindness in forgiving me and washing me clean. I’m very sorry for being weak, stumbling, and going against what I should have done. I’m very sorry to have let you down. Thank you for making me feel welcome and for reminding me that I am your loved child. Please give me the strength to learn from my mistakes and become more like your Son, Jesus. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
