In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. — Genesis 1:1

We are things that live on the earth. We are much more than that, but sometimes we need to be reminded of that! We can’t really understand what life was like before time, but God was there before time as we know it. He has shown himself to be “I Am,” the one who was, is, and will be. Before there was a universe with rules that gave us a reason to exist, God was “I Am.” He existed before, after, and outside of the universe we made. We can’t even fully understand what’s going on here. That’s why every new day, week, year, or millennium should start with God. He is the only true Genesis, the beginning of everything.

Prayer

God of the whole universe and creator of everything, I praise you for your unmatched power and glory. I know that my future depends on your will, your grace, and your salvation as I start this new year. Help me get to this future by going with me. Please be honored by how I live today, this year, and for as long as you give me life on earth. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
