In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. — John 1:1

God had the message of salvation with him when he made the world. In fact, God himself was the Message because that’s what he is. John wants us to know that Jesus, who is God’s Word and the ultimate Message, was always with God. The one who turns water into wine, feeds the 5000, and raises the dead Lazarus didn’t become a person until he was born in Bethlehem, but he has always been there. Matthew says that he is God with us (Matthew 1:23). Luke tells us that he is God who came to visit us (Luke 7:16). Mark says, “He is the Son of God” (Mark 1:1). He is the last and most important Word of God (Hebrews 1:1–2)!

Prayer

Father, please help me understand your message better, both in writing and in real life. Please tell me more about how Jesus cares about people and how much he loves you. May he be my Lord in everything I say, do, and think. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
