At many Christian funerals, the preacher talks about how Jesus died so that we can join him in heaven. Then he will come back to get us. But Jesus adds this promise just a few verses later. He is telling us that until we can come live with him at his place, he will come live with us here in our hearts. All of it depends on one thing: our willingness to love him in a way that makes us want to obey him. Not too bad, right? So let’s not forget the word “obedience” in our daily lives.

Prayer
Holy God, I know that Jesus came to earth and did what you wanted him to do. Give me wisdom so that when I obey you, it’s not just because I’m told to, but because I want to do what you want. I want to show you how much I appreciate what you’ve done to save me. Thank you. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
