Conversion and the new birth depend on the Holy Spirit and water, respectively. The whole New Testament supports this. One is an act of capitulation and submission. The second was a gift and a reminder that only God has the ability to transform us. Jesus’ decision to make them such a significant component of his Kingdom is thus understandable.

You are a holy and just God, Father. I am aware that I am not consistently reliable despite my best attempts. I’m very grateful that you extended your kindness to me via Jesus and transformed me into a brand-new member of your family by giving me a spiritual birth.
