We can be cute with our words. We can sound smart by the way we talk. We can win arguments with what we say. We can defend ourselves with what we say. We can lie and change the truth with our words. We can do many things with our words, but God wants us to use them to bless. So, when we talk, if the words we say don’t bless and help the people to whom we say them, we shouldn’t say anything at all. Grandma had a point. “If you can’t say something nice, then don’t say anything at all.”

Prayer

Dear God, grant me the discernment to speak words today that will bless my household, my workplace, and everyone I come in contact with. When I speak, I want to be sincere, compassionate, loving, and merciful. Lord, may what I say today be used for your benefit and for your honor. In Jesus’s precious name I pray. Amen.
