God doesn’t just bless us. He puts us in place! He gives us power! He helps us grow up and become solid and true followers. In many ways, he does this. One of the most important ways is through the words that the Holy Spirit gave to Jesus’ early followers and told us. As this year comes to a close and the next one starts, let’s make a new promise to spend time in the Bible every day. Let’s not turn this powerful tool and great source of information into a coffee-table book or a lucky charm to bring to church.

I thank you, God, for your Spirit, which led people to spread your message. I’m grateful that the Bible was written by people who helped us hear the Spirit’s message. I’m glad that there are so many good versions of the Bible that we can read today. I’m grateful that I’m free to have a Bible in my home. Please help me not throw away the amazing gift that is your written word. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
