It’s so hard to tell other people what’s in our hearts. We want to hide our mistakes, things that make us feel bad, and sins. We’re afraid that if people knew what was really going on in our hearts, they’d turn away from us and we’d feel bad about ourselves. But sin that is hidden only stays hidden from us. Our Father knows all about it. Sin that stays hidden grows in our hearts and drives a wedge between us and God, who would forgive us and give us the power to get over it. If only we’d tell him everything, knowing that he wants to be our safe place.

Dear Father and Holy God, I want to tell you a few things on my mind today. Father, I don’t want people to know that I have… (confess your most secret and shameful sins to God) Holy God, I have sinned and ask your forgiveness for… (Admit the sins that other people might not think are that big of a deal, but that Satan uses to get you to doubt God’s love for you) Eternal Lord, I worry about… (confess the things that worry you and give them to God.) You are my only refuge and strength. I trust you with these confessions and ask that you strengthen me through the power of your Holy Spirit so that I don’t keep falling into the same traps. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
