Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. — Colossians 4:5

Jesus told us that we will have to answer to God for every thoughtless word we say to other people (Matthew 12:36-37). We need to listen to the Lord’s warning about being careful with our words in a time when social media is full of mean, ugly, and divisive speech. Paul told us we should be even more careful about what and how we say things. The apostle said that our influence on people who don’t know Christ is very important. We want to use every chance we can to get people to open their hearts to Jesus. When we’re around people who aren’t Christians, we need to be kind, show that we care, and be careful about what we say. The eternal fate of those around us may depend on what we say to them. Let’s put thought into how we say things. Let’s take advantage of every chance we get to show people the grace of Jesus.

Prayer

Holy and Righteous God, I know we break your heart when we, your people, hurt and push away non-believers with thoughtless and hurtful words and cruel posts on social media. Please help me, O God, to be friendly with everyone, but especially with those who don’t know Jesus as their Lord and Savior yet. Use how I live and what I say to bring people to Jesus. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
