In the four Gospels, Jesus is called by many names, either directly or by implication (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John). Just in this one passage, Jesus is called “child,” “son,” “Jesus,” “great,” “Son of the Most High,” “King,” “son of David,” and “leader of Israel” (Jacob). Jesus is impossible to describe, but by becoming human, he chose to be limited to imperfect ones. But all of these names and descriptions help us find Jesus as our Savior in every good and bad thing that happens in life. Jesus is a savior for every time of year.

Prayer
Holy and powerful Father, I thank you for all the ways Jesus is talked about and called. They show me how many different sides he has and how deep his character goes. Please bless me so that I can always find a part of Jesus’ ministry or a name or description of Jesus to hold on to when I walk through the shadows of doubt caused by the evil one. Help me, Father, to see Jesus and not my worries and preferences, so that when he comes back he will know me and I will know him. I pray in the name of the Savior, whose name is great. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
