God wants us to pray to him. But God wants us to always remember to be thankful so that they don’t become too self-centered. We can easily turn prayer into a list of things we want. When thanksgiving and praise are taken out of our prayers, we are the ones who lose out. Without praise, our hearts grow cold because all we can think about are our problems, and prayer turns into a list of things we want.

Merciful God I have a lot of good things to say about you. I can renew my hope in the face of adversity and hardship thanks to your promises. I owe you a debt of gratitude for my skills in the triumphant moment. I find great joy in your surprises because I get so bored with the routine. God, thank you for being both great and loving. In Jesus’s precious name I pray. Amen.
