It’s not a surprise what God does through Jesus. Yes, it was a surprise, but the Jewish Scriptures, which we call the Old Testament, are full of “hints” and predictions about his coming. “Long ago,” the holy prophets had talked about it. But more than the prophets, the coming of Jesus shows that God keeps his word. God is keeping his promises by sending Jesus. So, Paul can say that all of God’s promises are fulfilled in Jesus and that the “amen” is spoken through Jesus (2 Corinthians 1:20). Through Jesus, God comes, helps, cares, saves, redeems, and keeps his promises.

Prayer
Holy Father, I praise you for keeping your word. I am confident that you will honor your commitment to me because of your love, character, and kindness. As I strive to uphold my promises and commitments to you, kindly assist me in being more faithful to you. I understand why this is significant to you—in addition to helping me learn how to obey—because it will help me build a character that is more like yours. I’m grateful that you heard me out. In Jesus’s precious name I pray. Amen.
