God waited until the right time in history had come, and then he sent Jesus. Just the right time: the Romans were in charge, the Jews were subservient, there were good roads, freedom, a certain amount of safety, a common language for trading, cruel and barbaric punishments, and religious wars. He sent his Son to be a woman’s son when things were bad. He got rid of everything in his house so he could send a savior to our house. He did it so that we could be his real, full-fledged children. He didn’t just pretend we were his kids. So that he could be not only God, but also Abba.

Prayer
Even your name, Daddy, means so much to me. I’m in awe of the price you paid to let me call you “Abba.” I appreciate your extravagant love even though I don’t understand it. I am aware that calling you “Abba” is inappropriate, but it just feels right. When you say the words “Abba,” something deep inside you vibrates: “Holy, Righteous, Almighty, Abba!” Even though I am aware that I will never be a perfect child, I can rest easy knowing that you claim me as your own and that I am your child today. I’m grateful. In Jesus’s precious name I pray. Amen.
