God waited until the right time in history had come, and then he sent Jesus. Just the right time: the Romans were in charge, the Jews were subservient, there were good roads, freedom, a certain amount of safety, a common language for trading, cruel and barbaric punishments, and religious wars. He sent his Son to be a woman’s son when things were bad. He got rid of everything in his house so he could send a savior to our house. He did it so that we could be his real, full-fledged children. He didn’t just pretend we were his kids. So that he could be not only God, but also Abba.

Prayer
Abba Even your name, Father, means a lot to me. I can’t believe how much you charged me to call you “Abba.” I don’t know how you can love so much, but I thank you for it. I know I don’t deserve to call you Abba, but it sounds so good. When I hear the word “Abba” — Holy, Righteous, Almighty, Abba! — I feel something inside. Even though I know I’ll never be a perfect child, I can rest easy knowing I’m yours and you claim me. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
