For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: — 1 Peter 3:18

I’ve stood over the open graves of friends, family, and strangers, so I know what death looks like, how it feels, and how weak people are. But Christ’s death is a great reminder that how we see and deal with death depends on our faith. I believe that God raised Jesus from the dead, and that Jesus is the first fruit of all of us who believe in him. He is not only alive in spirit, but also has a body. We will live because Jesus did.

Prayer

Thank you, Almighty God, for the blessings of your grace, Spirit, pardon, and life. I’m most grateful for the gift of your Son, who through your salvation gave me life and immortality. Even though I don’t particularly want to pass away, I am confident that I can look through death to you and your victory over me in Jesus. Give me the strength to live each day for you until the day you take me home. In Jesus’s precious name I pray. Amen.
