Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD. — 1 Chronicles 16:10

What do you feel good about? Do you take pride in what you’ve done, how much money you have, where you work, how attractive you are, how religious you are, how humble you are, etc.? “Beneath the Cross of Jesus,” we sing in the old song “Beneath the Cross of Jesus.” When Christians say, “We glory in God’s holy name,” this is what they mean. Jesus has helped us understand much more about the holy name of God. He taught us not only to respect God’s name, but also to call him “Father.” Any other reason to be happy or to brag about something is a temporary illusion. Glory comes to those whose hearts are set on the LORD when they honor the holy name of the Father, who gave up his beautiful Son so we could be his children. That’s how much he loves us. Incredible!

Prayer

Father, you have given me a lot of good things. How will I ever be able to thank you enough? Even though I know that fame and glory are temporary and often come in the form of fake compliments from people who want something from me, I have to admit that sometimes I look for them on my own. But I know in my heart, my God, that the adoption covenant you made with your grace is where I find my true glory. I’m grateful. Please know that I will always be grateful for what you have done, even though I can’t say how thankful I am. May you have all the glory in heaven and on earth, now and forever. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
