Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. — Joshua 1:9

This order and promise to Joshua are also for us as we move into the new year. We don’t know what’s ahead, but we do know that God will go with us if we ask him to and try to do what he wants. So, “I will go with you” is not just a promise to hold on to. It’s also an order! “Have strength and courage, and don’t be afraid or give up.” We look forward to the coming year as a chance to serve God, not as something to be afraid of.

Prayer

Thank you for being with me as I start this new year, Holy and Almighty Father. Please give me your Spirit so I can greet it with zeal and anticipation for the opportunities that lie ahead. Please pardon me when I become fearful and unsure due to my own shortcomings and the unknown ahead of me. Give me the bravery to live bravely this year for you. In Jesus’s precious name I pray. Amen.
