In the Bible, many types of admirable leaders are referred to as “shepherds.” But there is only one genuine Shepherd. He demonstrates to us that the essence of Christian leadership is sacrifice, not rank, and service, not self-interest. We cling to this Shepherd because we are certain that he values us more than himself.

Prayer

Sacred and ready to offer, Father, I’m in awe of your strategy in having Jesus serve as both Lord and Lamb, Shepherd and Sacrifice. I’m grateful that you gave me life via his death and that you demonstrated leadership through his life. I’ll always be appreciative to you. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
