If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. — 2 Chronicles 7:14

Humility is not the most valued or most sought-after trait in our culture. But we need humility, not so much because it’s a command (though that would be enough), but because we’ve “earned” it. Every year, there are a lot of moral, character, and spiritual failures that are really bad. Even on our best days, none of us are as holy as God. We’re not getting better as a culture; instead, we’re getting worse. We have “earned” the right to be humble before God. So let’s be humble and call on the Lord, giving up our sin and looking for him.

Prayer

Your faithfulness , Holy and Almighty God, is astounding, your actions are outstanding, and your mercy and grace are magnificent blessings. Despite the vast distance between us, between your worth and holiness and mine, I come to you knowing that you hear me. I accept that I wrecked everything you so graciously gave us, as well as my culture and the country in which I live. At this point, I sincerely request that you reassert yourself in our country in a visible manner.  In Jesus’s precious name I pray. Amen.
