If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. — 2 Chronicles 7:14

Humility is not the most valued or most sought-after trait in our culture. But we need humility, not so much because it’s a command (though that would be enough), but because we’ve “earned” it. Every year, there are a lot of moral, character, and spiritual failures that are really bad. Even on our best days, none of us are as holy as God. We’re not getting better as a culture; instead, we’re getting worse. We have “earned” the right to be humble before God. So let’s be humble and call on the Lord, giving up our sin and looking for him.

Prayer

Holy and powerful God, your works are amazing, your loyalty is amazing, and your mercy and grace are such a blessing. Still, I come to you because I know you hear me, even though there is a huge gap between us in terms of your worth and holiness and mine. I admit that I, along with my culture and country, have messed up what you gave us so beautifully. I come to you in a humble way to ask that you show yourself again in our country in ways that everyone can see. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
