Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. — Hebrews 12:2

Who inspires you? I want to know who you actively appreciate, not what the Sunday school class might say. Because Jesus is not physically there where we can see him like previous heroes, it is difficult to “focus our eyes on Jesus.” But he was the consummate explorer and pioneer. He accepted the terrible punishment and disgrace of the crucifixion in order to atone for our sin! He did it so that we may have a hero who was immune to the effects of death and sin. He did it so that if we follow in his footsteps, we may be sure that the path he blazed was not just for him but also for us.

Prayer

Please pardon me when I pursue falsehoods and lose sight of Jesus as my greatest hero. In order for people to experience the assurance that comes from having Jesus as their Lord, I want to respect and serve him by allowing his life to come alive in me. I can’t begin to say how grateful I am to my Lord for his suffering and the exorbitant price he paid to atone for my sins. The joy I feel at his ground-breaking success, which guarantees that I shall one day be with you forever, is also beyond words! In Jesus’ name I ask it. Amen.
