O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from thee. — Psalm 69:5

Even though we’re all weak and sinful and even though Jesus died for our sins and prays for us before the Father, there are still a few big problems with our sin. This verse helps us remember one of them: we don’t want our sins to make God or his people look bad. God wants us to stay away from sin, so let’s do that. Let’s not sin so that God’s people don’t look bad. But let’s also pray for ourselves and our fellow Christians, that God won’t let our mistakes bring shame to his Church, Christ, and cause.

Shepherd, please forgive me for my sins. I’m sorry I didn’t accept your kindness. I am sure that you have forgiven me and washed me clean of my sins because of what Jesus did on the cross. But, please, dear God, use your divine power to stop them from making you and your people look bad. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
