O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens. — Psalm 8:1

These two ideas seem to go against each other or at least have nothing to do with each other. On the one hand, God’s name is majestic on this plain, temporary place we call earth, but he is also glorious and higher than the highest heavens. Israel is a place where these different worlds come together. It’s clear from the way Jesus lived, died, and came back to life. It will be made glorious in us, who will one day share the glory of the heavens because we have boldly proclaimed the majesty of our LORD God on earth.

I’m grateful for Jesus’ promise that if I respect you and confess him while I’m on earth, you’ll happily honor me and call my name when the time comes for me to stand before your throne in front of your angels. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
