Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren; — 1 Timothy 5:1

Young people often have a lot of energy, enthusiasm, and clarity about what they want to pursue. Older people could describe you as being obstinate, naïve, and hasty. Because of time-tested strategies that have been successfully used throughout the years, there is a feeling of assurance with age. Younger individuals could characterize it as stable, predictable, and fixed. Although these disagreements might cause conflict and conflicts, both sides can benefit by listening to the other. An elder Christian deserves the respect that comes from having lived a life of faith, even if they are in the wrong. However, elder Christians must also be open to being chastised by a younger one, particularly if the latter has prayed about it, shown humility, and a love and respect for senior citizens.

Prayer

Help me to be truthful, O Eternal Father, God of my ancestors and the promise of my future, particularly when I’m interacting with those who aren’t my age. I promise to show elderly folks respect and be mindful of my language. When younger people tell me I’ve done something wrong, may I be willing to change. Father, most of all, I beg you to surround me with people who will love me enough to overlook my errors as well as to point them out and assist me in moving beyond them. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
