Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. — Acts 2:38

Peter makes a promise for everyone who turns to God, submits to him in baptism, and puts their full trust in Jesus as their Lord and Savior. They will be filled with God’s Spirit and forgiven of their sins because of Jesus Christ’s good name and good works. This passage (Acts 2:33–47) shows that Peter and the other apostles had started doing what Jesus asked them to do in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18–20). They were going out, baptizing people, and teaching them to do what the Lord told them to do. Let’s share this grace, just like those first disciples did, so that everyone can see that Jesus is not only Lord, but also Savior and King for all who hear God’s call and put their trust in him.

Prayer

Thank you, all-powerful and kind Father. You gave me hope when I didn’t have any. You gave me strength when I had lost my will. You have given me grace and love through your Holy Spirit, which you sent down from heaven. I praise you for your love, mercy, forgiveness, salvation, and Spirit. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
