One of the most touching passages in the Bible is John 17. Jesus is aware that he will die. He is aware that he is spending his final hours before death among disciples who have no idea what he is about to do or why he is about to do it. As he prepares himself and his disciples for life without him, Jesus has two main aims in mind. He wants them to unite so that they can remain strong and have an impact on the world for God. He desires that what he does bring honor to the Father. Despite his shame and abandonment, he want to benefit others. We will confront difficulties. What will be our objective? No surprise we are encouraged to concentrate our gaze on Jesus and follow in his footsteps.

Prayer

Loving Father, I cannot grasp the secrets of agony and grace that struck your heart as Jesus made his way to the Cross with such honesty and sacrifice. Lord Jesus, I cannot thank you enough for providing me a great example of how to withstand life’s toughest hardships. Please make my life a blessing to others and give me strength to serve and to bless even in times that are challenging. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
