Jesus demonstrated to his disciples what it means to live in a community centered on the cross by assuming the position of a household slave and washing their feet. He did it with the knowledge that they would flee, disown, betray, and deny him. Incredible! However, he also instructs me to do it. Jesus says, “You cannot claim to love me if you do not love those for whom I suffered and died!” (see 1 John 3:14-18 & 1 John 4:7-12)

Prayer

I desire to be like my Teacher and your Son, O God. I renounce my self-serving ways so that I can serve your children sincerely, even if they are unkind to me. Please grant me the strength, courage, and perseverance to live up to these convictions and reflect Christ’s character more flawlessly. I pray in the name of Jesus, my Lord. Amen.
